Doing the Work: Writers Coming Together in Times of Crisis

December 9, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Free

What does it mean for literary artists to “do the work?” Writing is primarily an individual effort, but many of our most celebrated writers across all genres have also become known for their guidance of other writers along with their general contributions to fostering a sense of literary community. Many have called this “the work” outside of the solo writing process itself.

Join the NYFA and PEN America for a panel discussion with Ariana Brown, Francisco Gutierrez, and Marwa Helal, all of whom have been doing the work at this most critical time—whether through providing prompts, offering free workshops, or otherwise bringing writers together—to be moderated by Alejandro Heredia of PEN America. The goal of the conversation is for participants to walk away with greater knowledge of available opportunities to build community with writers as well as the confidence needed to find their own ways of doing the work. Please register for the event here via Eventbrite.

This is an online Zoom conversation. Those who register will receive the Zoom link to participate in the hour prior to the event via email.
