$Image: "In the Woods" reveals the artist’s concerns and anxiety about the (im)possibility of the future during the COVID-19 pandemic. Image: Round Robin is a free trilingual community newspaper written/translated in Chinese, English, and Spanish. It is printed on 11 by 17 inch newspapers. Articles are sectioned by categories such as history, culture, politics, culinary, and op-ed.

"Samothracae" means "of the Greek island of Samothrace", most famous for the discovery of the "Nike" or "Winged Victory of Samothrace", in 1863 by a French archaeologist. The sculpture had only one wing and a partial chest but was reconstructed by the Louvre into the harmonized, hybridized whole we know of today, one of the museum's most prized artifacts. Unlike the Greek figure, this piece of wood is more transfigurational, where one form is emerging from the other through a process of rupture. Instead of being white, the artist’s piece is rendered in black by scorching the outer wood, transforming it away from the arboreal towards the humane.

An immersive installation consisting of a field of 96 touch activated poles that when activated, create a symphony of sound and light. While a single touch produces one melody, simultaneous interactions with the installation create a complex, layered chorus. The video will be installed on the hotel’s dedicated in-room video art channel, and will play for the next two months in all 130 guest rooms in the hotel. From the Roger Smith website:

“I Believe it is a Signal is an experimental video organized as a 6-part vignette, each section revealing the control structures within the video code as it falls apart. In the spirit of Nam June Paik’s early Wobulator work, the artist uses a process that disrupts the video sequencing, making the pixels appear to rupture as it is being ripped apart. The forced reorganization and glitching bodyscapes suggest that the monumental authority of broadcast and streaming media is in fact a fragile and impermanent signal.

"Jason Bernagozzi is a video, sound and new media artist living and working in upstate New York and is a co-founder of the experimental media arts non-profit Signal Culture. His work has been featured nationally and internationally at venues such as the Signal Culture European Media Arts Festival in Osnabruk, Germany, the LOOP Video Art Festival in Barcelona, Spain, the Beyond/In Western NY Biennial in Buffalo, NY, and the Yan Gerber International Arts Festival in Hebei Province, China. His work has received several awards including grants from the New York State Council for the Arts, Wavefarm and the ARTS Council for the Southern Finger Lakes.
