NYFA HISTORY

Many artists don’t know this about NYFA, but our legal name is actually York Foundation for the Arts named after the Yorks, a family in New Amsterdam who handed out flyers advertising cultural events to people waiting in line at the local market (the original “online resources”). When the old York Foundation for the Arts had to be closed due to a muskrat infestation in 1655, locals called the building they moved into the New York Foundation for the Arts. And the name just stuck!
