NYFA Artists Now: Upcoming Events in New York City

NYFA is pleased to share news and information about upcoming and current exhibitions, performances and readings by the following current and former recipients of NYFA Artists’ Fellowships: 

aricoco (Fellow in Interdisciplinary Work ‘15)
aricoco was chosen to be one of the 2015 Sunroom artists by Wave Hill in the Bronx. Her work is presented in the Sunroom Project Space exhibition in the Glyndor Gallery through September 7. With the help of the installation, aricoco is confronting her fear of the natural flora and fauna.

Ryan Sarah Murphy (Fellow in Crafts/ Sculpture ‘14)
Ryan Sarah Murphy is featured in Necessary Construct, a group exhibition at Trestle Gallery in Brooklyn, NY through September 18.

Jane Fine (Fellow in Painting ‘94, ‘08)
For the sixth time, Jane Fine is going to exhibit her paintings and drawings at Pierogi. The upcoming one-person show is titled Contents Under Pressure.  The significance of the opening date on September 11th has been a leading motivation for the artist. The show’s title can be understood as a reference both to champagne and chlorine gas.

Martine Bellen (Fellow in Poetry ‘91)

This year Martine Bellen will present her latest work in a number of readings in a number of venues in New York City, Washington, D.C. and St. Augustine, FL. See her schedule here

Yasuko Yokoshi (Fellow in Choreography ‘04)
Yasuko Yokoshi’s most recent project ZERO ONE will be performed with Danspace Project. As a choreographer and filmmaker, Yasuko is connecting traditional Japanese choreography with contemporary western choreography through performers and video screenings.

September 24 – 26, 2015, Thursday performance at 8 PM, Friday & Saturdays at 7 PM and 9:30 PM. Thursday night’s performance will be followed by a Q&A with the choreographer

Danspace Project: 131 East 10th Street, New York, NY

Elizabeth Streb (Fellow in Choreography ‘90, ‘94, ‘02)
Elizabeth Streb will be part of the Drama Club: Seagulls cast alongside Cynthia Nixon, Mark Fisher and Rinne Groff at Joe’s Pub on October 26 at 7 PM. The one-act play by Caryl Churchill will be the base for discussion.

The Public Theater: 425 Lafayette Street, New York, NY

Meredith Monk (Fellow in Music Composition ‘85 and in Choreography ‘96)
Meredith Monk will collaborate with author and playwright Anne Waldman on a performance at Danspace Project. This will be the first time that the two well-known New York City performance artists are collaborating.

NYFA Artists’ Fellowships are cash awards of $7,000 awarded in fifteen different disciplines and made to individual originating artists living and working in the state of New York for unrestricted use. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the program and NYFA is celebrating with events throughout the state.
