The Surviving Artist in a Changing New York at Brooklyn Historical Society

Three NYFA and Whiting Award winners talk about the effect of New York’s convulsive cultural, financial, and political changes on writers

New York City has long been known as the creative capital of the world, but what exactly has contributed to the city’s magnetism, and are those elements now in flux?

Dael Orlandersmith (Fiction ‘96), José Rivera (Playwriting/Screenwriting ‘88), and Saïd Sayrafiezadeh (Board Member, Playwriting/Screenwriting ‘96, ‘06, Fiction ‘10) will address the struggles and/or pleasures of writing in New York in a conversation moderated by The New Yorker’s Cressida Leyshon on June 15 at Brooklyn Historical Society.

The event is also a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Whiting Foundation Awards.
